Silicon Insider is located in Pacific Grove, California, on the scenic coastline of Monterey Bay between Carmel, Pebble Beach, and Monterey. We're about 60 minutes south of San Jose and Silicon Valley. Pacific Grove was named the Most Romantic Town in America by Life magazine, and is often called "America's Last Hometown" on account of its quaint, small-town atmosphere. Pacific Grove boasts more Victorian houses per capita than any other place in the United States. In the autumn months it becomes "Butterfly Town USA" as thousands of colorful Monarch butterflies spend the winter months in the local trees.

Coastal Route

This route takes you past the Monterey sailboat marina, along historic Cannery Row, past the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, and along the scenic coastline of Pacific Grove.

  1. Begin on Highway 101 southbound
  2. Exit #336 to onto Highway 156 West signposted "to the Monterey Peninsula"
  3. After a few miles this road will merge onto Highway 1 South
  4. Exit #400A signposted to "Monterey." (There are two exit lanes.)
  5. Turn right at the stoplight onto Camino Aguajito
  6. Turn left at the end of the street onto Del Monte Avenue. Stay in the right lane
  7. Near Fisherman's Wharf the road forks. Stay right and go through tunnel
  8. Immediately after tunnel, stay right again onto Foam Street
  9. Make first right turn onto Reeside, then left onto Cannery Row
  10. At the Monterey Bay Aquarium the street turns sharply left. At the next stop sign turn right onto Ocean View Boulevard
  11. Follow the coastline about two miles, to a four-way stop sign at 17th Street. Turn left at 17th Street.
  12. Turn right at Lighthouse Avenue. We're two blocks ahead, at the intersection of Lighthouse and 19th, on the left.

Forest Route

This route will take you through the tree-lined fringes of Pebble Beach, around the historic Point Pinos Lighthouse, and along the scenic coastline of Pacific Grove.

  1. Begin on Highway 101 southbound
  2. Exit #336 to Highway 156 West signposted "to the Monterey Peninsula"
  3. After a few miles this road will merge onto Highway 1 South
  4. Exit #399A signposted to "Pebble Beach / 17-Mile Drive / Pacific Grove"
  5. Turn right from the exit and follow the twisty road uphill
  6. Upon entering town, keep left. The road forks at Sunset Drive (left) and Forest Avenue (right). Take the left fork onto Sunset Drive
  7. Follow Sunset Drive across the 17-Mile Drive, around the Point Pinos Lighthouse, past Spanish Bay golf course, and along the coastline
  8. There is a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Ocean View, Jewell, and 17th Street. Continue straight ahead onto 17th Street.
  9. Turn right at Lighthouse Avenue. We're two blocks ahead, at the intersection of Lighthouse and 19th, on the left.
